Yee Wei Chai (born June 21, 1976) is the Grand Prix winner of Short Shorts, an Academy Awards® accredited film festival, for his experimental short film “Benjamin’s Last Day at Katong Swimming Complex” (2018). His portfolio is as diverse as his interests. His latest Singaporean feature, “Wonderland” (2024), a hyperlocal family drama, won the Audience Award at the San Diego Asian Film Festival, the Local Jury Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and both Best Leading Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the inaugural Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival.
He has co-written, produced, and directed several feature films and high-budget series across various genres, including serious drama (“Wonderland”), romantic comedy (“Venus on Mars,” “That Girl In Pinafore”), and horror (“Blood Ties,” “Twisted”).
In addition to being an award-winning filmmaker, he is a tech enthusiast who founded Mocha Chai Laboratories, Southeast Asia’s first boutique digital film lab featuring state-of-the-art Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos facilities. Today, he splits his time between developing and producing content, and advocating for the use of new technologies to tell better stories.
